Academic Results

At Craigholme, academic standards are high and our pupils' exam results are consistently amongst Scotland’s top performing schools.

This year’s results were no exception. With 99% passes at Standard Grade, the girls have matched last year’s remarkable record. What is also impressive is that 95.2% of all Standard Grades were attained at Credit level. At S5 the Higher pass rate was 91.4%, and for S5 and S6, the combined pass rate was 92.1% — this is an improvement from last year and, significantly, almost 20% higher than the national average.

Craigholme students also excelled in their Advanced Highers, particularly in Chemistry, Maths and Geography, with the girls showing great aptitude for these traditionally male associated subjects. Craigholme was also one of only four independent schools in Scotland who entered a candidate for the Scottish Baccalaureate, and with great success.

Further information on the post-appeal SQA exam results for 2011 is available.

Research undertaken by the Department of Education and Skills in 2005 found that A-level grades in independent girls' schools were 10% higher than those in comparable independent co-educational schools.

Whilst our ethos recognises the vital significance of academic success for pupils and parents, it does not lose sight of the importance of an all round education, one that offers enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

After gaining strong academic results, the majority of S6 pupils go on to Scottish universities and significant numbers have gained places at Oxford, Cambridge, and other leading UK establishments.
