Academic Results

At Craigholme, academic standards are high and our pupils' exam results are consistently amongst Scotland’s top performing schools.

The results for 2011/12 are no exception and the S5 girls achieved a Higher pass rate of 95% - the best Higher pass rate Craigholme has had for the past decade. What is more impressive is that of all these Higher qualifications, 54% were at grade A and a further 23% were at grade B.

Exam Results

To really put these results into context, we look at the national average – this year our Higher pass rate is a substantial 18% more than the national average.

8 girls received all A passes and 22.5% of our S5 pupils received all As in every Higher they sat.

We pride ourselves on helping girls achieve their goals which is why we do not use any kind of presentation policy – if pupils wish to study a subject, we allow them to do so and support them in any way we can.

It is not only in Higher qualifications that Craigholme girls have excelled themselves. S4 pupils achieved a Credit level pass rate of 95% in all their Standard Grades and for Intermediate 2 qualifications, the pass rate is 94% – with 70% A passes.

At Advanced Higher level, our pupils have achieved a pass rate of 95%, of which 69% were at grades A-B.

Research undertaken by the Department of Education and Skills in 2005 found that A-level grades in independent girls' schools were 10% higher than those in comparable independent co-educational schools.

Whilst our ethos recognises the vital significance of academic success for pupils and parents, it does not lose sight of the importance of an all round education, one that offers enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

After gaining strong academic results, the majority of S6 pupils go on to Scottish universities and significant numbers have gained places at Oxford, Cambridge, and other leading UK establishments.
