Enterprise

Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise is an after school activity specifically for S6 pupils. Formal Meetings take place during lunchtimes and after school.

Young Enterprise gives invaluable practical experience on which to base your career choice. It shows that no matter who you are or what you choose to do, "enterprise" is not merely a word but an attitude to life. All achievers will have the opportunity to develop communication, decision making, organisation and time management skills.

Students participate in many activities during their year. The main role of the programme is to form and run their own company making and selling their products. Students sell their products both in house and at events such as the annual Young Enterprise Trade Fair held in the Royal Concert Hall. They also have to produce a business report on their company and give a 5 minute presentation on their Young Enterprise Year. Both the Report and the Presentation form part of a competition which is open to all Young Enterprise groups within the Glasgow Area Board and is judged by a panel of businessmen and academic staff of various universities. Students also have the chance to sit the Young Enterprise examination which is run by Strathclyde Business School. Other events include masterclasses, conferences and dinners where they have the opportunity to meet and hear young successful entrepreneurs.

Craigholme has a history of successful Young Enterprise companies supported by a Link Teacher and Advisers from various different business backgrounds.

 Junior Enterprise
Junior Enterprise meets weekly at lunchtime and is open to any girl in the Upper Junior School. Pupils make a variety of products which are showcased and sold at the Open Evening and the Christmas Fair. Last year they made a range of products including votive candle holders, felt mini Christmas stockings, gift tags and a variety of gift bags with a selection of fillings as well as dog and cat gift bags, filled with treats.

As well as the art and craft skills involved the girls learn about marketing the products, deciding an appropriate price, costings, publicity and dealing with customers. Any profits which are made are donated to charity with some being held over to buy stock for the following session.
