At Craigholme, our early years learning environment provides a broad and rounded curriculum for boys and girls aged 3-5 years.
Set in private grounds with an outdoor play area, the Nursery has spacious and modern facilities and has been consistently praised for its happy atmosphere and caring staff in Care Commission reports.
The children learn by play and exploration through a planned programme of activities.
Children are introduced to numerical concepts and pre-reading and writing skills at appropriate stages and are encouraged to work to their full potential. These activities are in turn, further enhanced through teaching by specialist senior school staff in Music, Physical Education and French. Please watch the video below which was filmed in April, showing Nursery pupils telling the story of Goldilocks in French.
Nursery children benefit from our J2 pupil Buddy System. This builds their confidence of nursery children and gives them a taster of life at school. J1 teachers also regularly visit the Nursery which ensures a smooth transition into Junior School.
Through the course of the year nursery children experience some of the Senior School facilities. For example, Science Week, takes our pupils to the science laboratories where they see and take part in some experimentation. The annual Nativity Play is put on in conjunction with the Music Department and the nursery performance is ably supported by J1 percussionists. This is only one of the many performances the children participate in before enjoying the session's grand finale at Craigholme Tournament Day in June.
We provide care all through the school holidays and are open from 8am to 6pm, 51 weeks of the year — we are closed for one week over Christmas.
