We are based at the superb Sports Complex on Haggs Road. The facilities include a sports hall which has seven badminton courts, a climbing wall, a dance studio, an Astroturf pitch (which is converted into eight tennis courts in the summer), a blaes hockey pitch and a 300m grass track. We teach pupils from Nursery to S6 and therefore we know all the girls in the school extremely well. This also affords us the opportunity to ensure continuity through all the transition stages.
What we study in PE
"Higher PE helps you understand all aspects of sport and has greatly improved my knowledge of hockey. It’s very enjoyable as it’s different to all the other subjects." Claire Woodburn (Vice Games Captain)
The girls have an option to study Higher Physical Education in S6. This is an intense but enjoyable course where the girls are required to analyse their own performance in hockey, badminton and tennis. The course comprises three Units — Preparation of the Body, Skills and Techniques, and Structures and Strategies. The girls are assessed in their practical performance in both hockey and badminton.
In 2011's SQA exam results, 80% of the Higher PE class achieved an A pass, with 20% achieving a B.
| Beyond the classroom Our hockey fixture list sees us playing schools in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dollar, Ayr and Helensburgh. We have taken the 1st X1 on tour to Belfast on several occasions and we are always keen to welcome touring teams to Craigholme. As Pollok Park is on our door step, we use the park extensively for our cross-country training. |

What our pupils say about PE
"PE is fun, its good to get you fit, strong and healthy…and out of breath!" Kimberley (J4)
"PE is fun, challenging and constantly changing. It is energetic and pushes you to your highest limits."
J5 pupil
"Hockey is a great way to interact with other year groups and create friendships in a team environment. PE teaches you about winning and losing and gives you confidence to take part in team and individual sports." Emma Traynor (Games Captain)
Meet the staff
There are three members of staff in the PE Department. The most high profile is Mrs Wendy Justice who is a hockey double Olympian, who won a fantastic bronze medal at the Barcelona Olympics. Mrs Hilary Cannon enjoys running and visiting her daughters who are both at Aberdeen University. Mrs Sally Robertson (Head of Department) is addicted to yoga, now her hockey playing days are over.
