Friends of Craigholme
Craigholme is the only independent school in the west of Scotland that caters exclusively for girls.
Our unique school of thought suggests that the academic performance of girls is greatly enhanced in an 'all-girls’ environment. This belief is supported by both research and the outstanding academic results of Craigholme girls over a long number of years.
It's widely recognised that boys and girls mature at different rates, and a single-sex setting allows girls to relax and learn alongside their true peer group without distractions. Girls' schools are deemed to build confidence, assertiveness and the ability to shape and voice girls' own opinions across a broad range of subjects.
A report in the Times newspaper (March 2009) supports this doctrine and stated; “Away from the distraction of boys and free to shine in science and maths, girls race ahead of those who learn alongside boys in secondary school, a study of government data suggests".
Single-sex education provides distinct advantages. It allows girls to avoid subject stereotyping and show interest without inhibition; and provides an empowering learning environment where females hold positions of responsibility as a matter of course.
