The Wildlife Club meets on Wednesdays at 1.00pm and is open to pupils in S1.
This year, the Wildlife Club have started activities by taking advantage of the fine autumn weather to visit Maxwell Park and identify the many water birds that are now resident all year.
S1 have also dipped for small creatures in the pond itself, and will be examining them more closely under the microscope when the weather is too chilly for outdoor activities.
In previous years, activities have included growing caterpillars into moths, carrying out a survey on bluebells, and studying endangered species. We have grown Coleus plants from seed, and even produced some insectivorous plants, which are still keeping the Biology Lab free of midges after several years!
Nature Club
Nature Club is open to pupils in J4-J7 who meet fortnightly on a Thursday lunchtime. Topics studied include bumblebees, birds on Maxwell pond, frogs & toads, identifying trees from their leaves and wood lice.
