J1 to open their own Gallery

As part of their preparation for creating their own gallery, J1 pupils visited the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow (GOMA). They are also looking at the techniques and work of artists like Eric Carle and styles of painting like pointillism.

The pupils saw various sculptures and screen prints and tried their hand at making a large collage as a group.

In class, the pupils collectively made their own Kandinsky inspired paintings in which each pupil designed six squares while listening to different types of music to stimulate their creativity.

Katie McNeill said, “Art is fun at school. I liked making the collage at the Gallery of Modern Art.”

Their study will culminate in a showcase of their work in their own gallery before the Easter holidays.
