Two Craigholme pupils have gained places at two prestigious universities.
Fatima Chaudhry (age 17) has gained a place at the University of Cambridge to study Medicine at St John’s College while Olivia Ross (age 16) will take up a place at Tisch School of the Arts, part of New York University, to study film and TV studies.
Fatima gained 3 A’s in her Advanced Highers of Maths, Chemistry and Biology and a Disctinction in her Scottish Science Baccalaureate, building on her success of last year when she gained 5 As at Higher level. Olivia gained 2 As and 2 Bs in her 4 Highers of French, History, Drama and English.
Fatima, who won the Biology, Mathematics and Dux of School awards at the school prizegiving in June, said, “I am delighted I have been accepted to study medicine at Cambridge and all my efforts have paid off! Having been at Craigholme for 4 years I feel I have the confidence and ability to face the challenge of studying at Cambridge.”
Olivia said, “Before I opened my results I was really nervous but when I saw I had what I needed it was a great feeling! I can’t wait to start working hard on my acting at Tisch – a subject that I am passionate about.”
Both pupils attended interviews at the end of last year in their respective universities, as part of the application process.
Olivia had a taste of Tisch last summer when she was accepted onto the Arts Summer 2009 Acting Course at the Lee Strasberg Theatre, where she participated in acting workshops, watched Broadway shows and film screenings. Former students of Tisch include Angelina Jolie, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal.
