From August until Easter the P.E Department offer extra-curricular Hockey Practice for all year groups. Not only are these practices beneficial for developing tactical awareness skills and team work, it is also an opportunity to develop social skills, improve fitness and have fun. Teams are selected on girls' attendance at practices and we try to ensure that all girls experience an inter-school match at some point. We have a comprehensive Saturday morning Hockey Fixture List.
After School hockey practises take place on the following days:
Mon - S2
Tues - J7
Wed - S3 + S1
(After the October holiday the S1s move inside to play indoor hockey making full use of the fabulous indoor Sports Hall)
Thurs - S4/S5/S6
At the end of November we also have a practice for a selected number of seniors for Indoor Hockey - we are currently the West District Indoor Champions
From the start of the hockey season we also have a Monday lunchtime Running Club which the senior hockey players attend.
After Christmas all the hockey practices continue and we also run a lunchtime and an after-school Cross-Country Practice. The girls are obviously improving their general fitness and stamina base in cross-country. Although they run as a team in cross-country it is also about trying to improve your own personal time each week. It also gives girls who are not sometimes involved in teams a real chance to shine. We compete in several inter-school cross-country matches in the lead up to the Glasgow Schools and Scottish Schools Championships.
After Easter, hockey practices are switched to Athletics and Tennis Practices - again everyone is welcome to come. Our athletics teams for the Glasgow League/Glasgow Schools and Scottish Schools are selected from these practices. In tennis we enter the Nestle competitions at U13/U15 level.
Scottish Country Dancing is available after school on a Wednesday from 3.30pm-4.30pm for pupils in J4-J7. Dances learnt include Rabbie's Reel, Le Papillon, The Merry Reapers and a Reel for Jeannie as well as some social ceilidh dances such as the Gay Gordons and the Dashing White Sergeant.
