TCT unit opens at Yorkhill

Head Girl, Erin Curle (S6) attended the opening of the new Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) unit at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, with Mrs Gilliland (Deputy Principal) and Helene Linstrum, last year’s head of the Charities Committee.

Last year, Craigholme raised £13,422 for TCT through various fundraising activities on Charity Days including a Barbie themed day. Craigholme also entered a team of 50 pupils, teachers and parents into the Women’s 10K.

The Charities Committee were inspired to raise money for TCT after meeting Allister Boyd, a former pupil of Mrs Gilliland at Ayr Academy. Allister was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and after a long battle, sadly passed away last year.

The new unit at Yorkhill includes a kitchen, chill-out and study area kitted out with the latest technology for older teens and adults aged 16-24. The new unit is part of their development programme with another unit opening later this year in Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children and plans are afoot to open an additional £2 million unit at Weston General Hospital, Edinburgh.
